Working Principle
The enameled assembled tank itself is a static storage tank. Its working principle is mainly reflected in three aspects: structural design, sealing principle, and anti-corrosion protection mechanism. As a storage tank, it provides safe, clean, and long-term storage of liquid or solid materials through the physicochemical barrier effect of the enameled coating and the mechanical connection of the modular structure.
1. Structural Design Principle
Unit of enameled steel plate:
- Base — high-quality carbon steel plate (Q235B or higher grade)
- The surface of the steel plate is pre-treated (rust removal, degreasing)
- Spraying or dipping in glassy glaze (silicate glass)
- Firing in a high-temperature furnace at 850-900°C
- After melting, the glaze forms a strong chemical bond with the surface of the steel plate
Standardized modules:
- Steel plates are pre-manufactured in standard sizes (usually 1000×1000 mm, 1000×500 mm, etc.)
- Holes for bolts are provided at the edges for precise positioning
- The edges of each steel plate are stamped to form a flanged edge
- Interchangeable and combinable standard units are formed
Modular assembly:
- According to the design dimensions, the corresponding quantity and specifications of steel plates are selected
- Steel plates are connected with bolts through flanged edges on all four sides
- Longitudinal and transverse connections form a complete tank
- The bottom, side walls, and top cover are assembled according to the same principle
2. Sealing Principle
Flanged sealing structure:
- Flanged edges of adjacent steel plates overlap
- A sealing gasket (rubber, silicone, or EPDM) is installed between the flanges
- Bolts are tightened, creating a compressed seal
Multilevel sealing guarantee:
- Internal seal The enameled surface is smooth and even; the glaze continues at the joints
- Middle seal The sealing gasket elastically deforms, filling micro-gaps
- External seal The bolt tightening force is evenly distributed, ensuring reliable sealing
Bolt connection mechanism:
- High-strength galvanized bolts pass through the provided holes
- Nuts create pre-tension when tightened
- Pre-tension ensures tight contact of flange surfaces
- The sealing gasket under pressure creates elastic force, maintaining sealing
Sealing capability:
- Reliable sealing under normal working pressure (atmospheric or slight overpressure)
- Withstands certain liquid column pressure and temperature changes
- Long-term stable sealing
3. Anti-corrosion Protection Mechanism
Physical barrier of the enameled layer:
- The enameled layer is a glassy inorganic material, dense and non-porous
- Completely isolates the steel plate from contact with the stored medium
- Prevents corrosive media (water, acids, alkalis, salts) from reacting with the steel plate
- The glaze layer thickness of 0.2-0.3 mm provides effective protection
Chemical stability:
- Main components of the enamel: SiO₂, Al₂O₃, B₂O₃, etc.
- Extremely stable chemical properties, does not react with most chemicals
- Acid resistance: acidic media with pH≥2
- Alkali resistance: alkaline media with pH≤12
- Salt resistance: chlorides, sulfates, etc.
Electrochemical protection:
- The enameled layer is an insulator, blocking the path of electrochemical corrosion
- Prevents electrochemical reactions (oxidation-reduction) of the steel plate
- Even with local micro-defects, corrosion spreads with difficulty
Self-cleaning surface:
- Smooth enameled surface (roughness <0.5 μm)
- Contaminants and microorganisms adhere poorly
- Reduces the risk of microbiological corrosion (MIC)
4. Storage Process
Loading stage:
- The liquid or pulp enters the tank through the loading pipe
- The loading pipe is usually installed on the top of the tank or the upper part of the side wall
- The liquid flows into the tank under the influence of gravity
- Gradually fills the space of the tank
Storage stage:
- The material is stored in the tank at rest
- The enameled surface does not react with the material
- Preserves the original properties and quality of the material
- The tank design withstands the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid
Level control:
- The level in the tank is controlled by a level gauge
- Loading and unloading are controlled as needed
- Maintaining a reasonable storage level
- Reserving a certain safe space (usually leaving 10-20% of the space)
Unloading stage:
- The liquid is unloaded through the discharge opening at the bottom
- The unloading speed can be controlled by a valve
- It can also be equipped with a pump for pumping out
- After unloading, the tank can be cleaned and reused
5. Principle of load-bearing capacity and stability
Load-bearing structure:
- The side walls of the tank withstand the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid
- The bottom withstands the weight of the liquid and static pressure
- The top cover withstands its own weight and external loads (wind, snow, etc.)
- Bolt connections transmit and distribute loads
Stress distribution:
- The hydrostatic pressure of the liquid along the tank wall has a triangular distribution, maximum at the bottom
- The strength of the steel plate is designed taking into account the maximum stress
- Flanges and bolt connections withstand tensile and shear stresses
- The overall structure is stable and reliable
Support on the foundation:
- A foundation (concrete foundation or compacted soil) is installed at the bottom of the tank
- The foundation bears the own weight of the tank and the weight of the stored material
- The foundation area is large enough, pressure is distributed
- Ensures that the tank does not settle or tilt
Seismic and wind resistance:
- The tank is anchored to the foundation with anchor bolts
- The overall structure has some flexibility
- Can absorb dynamic impacts of earthquakes and wind loads
- Design complies with local seismic and wind resistance standards
